Hillary Mancini, Senior design director for the award-winning firm Peace Design explains the importance of context and authenticity.

Peace Design's work ranges from cabins to cottages, ranches to family farms. It's no wonder their work is published in Traditional Building and has amassed design awards from The American Society of Interior Designers and the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art; it is rich in composition replete with juxtaposing materials and always a reflection of their client's lifestyle and tastes.

"We research the history of the places we work so that the rooms we create tell a story."

We like to source local materials to design in the vernacular. For projects out west, timber hand hewn logs, stone from the local quarry or metal work from a local blacksmith help us achieve the authenticity we seek.

Listen in on Hillary Mancini’s ideas for designing interiors.
