Host Peter H. Miller Hon AIA interviews Greg Tankersley, partner and principal of the renowned McAlpine Architects. He manages the firm's New York and Palm Beach offices. McAlpine Architect's work is widely published in shelter magazines and with three books, the most recent which titled Romantic Modernism.

McAlpine Architects, as Tankersly explains, designs from "the inside out," with a vision for where the client will sit in a room, how the room will make them feel, where their furniture will go. "Our teacher in architecture school was an interior designer. We want the rooms we design to make people feel good. A client told us that our room designs made his guests feel 'elevated.'"

With a background in psychology and theater set design Greg Tankersley employs both in his architecture practice. Not many architects ask their client "where did you first all in love?" Or "what do find most annoying about your spouse?" But by asking 'nosey questions" Tankersley explains, he finds out how to design a house which is an accurate portrait of its owner, a house with drama, surprise and delight.

Listen in as Greg Tankersley of McAlpine Architects tells us about everything from 'falling in love with his clients" to designing the "Inheritable House," to "diversifying our interests" from architecture to opera.
