Building Tradition Episode 22: Interview with Architect Christine Franck
Christine Franck, educator, author and architect chairs the USA chapter of the International Network of Traditional Building, Architecture and Urbanism. With 40 chapters in 100 countries INTBAU has seminars, symposiums and summer schools that teach local traditional building and urban planning methods. "Through traditions we can preserve our sense of identity and counteract social alienation. We can connect people around the world, in a common language" exclaims Ms. Franck .
"My love of architecture began in Colonial Williamsburg. I was interested in how the buildings I loved were made. We should understand how the craft of building informs the architecture. Traditional building is not just about style, it's about the integration of building methods, architecture and urbanism. Traditional building is inherently sustainable."
Whether advancing INTBAU's global mission, or teaching architecture school students or practicing traditional architecture, Christine H. Franck's dedication to building tradition makes her one of our most compelling proponents.
Listen in to hear Ms. Franck inspire our thinking about architecture of its place, urban planning, 'natural building,' and traditional building's ability to connect us.
