William H. “Bill” Harrison | 1948-2021
Bill Harrison created Harrison Design in 1991 after having operated his own construction company for over a decade. The firm flourished throughout the years to what is now seven domestic offices and one international office, serving clients the world over. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the Georgia Institute of Technology, in Atlanta, where he also served as a member of the Advisory Board in recent years. Harrison Design has been the recipient of Palladio Awards, most recently for a stunning Beaux-Arts Estate.
A committed National Board member of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art for many years, Bill was also a founding member of the Southeast Chapter. Even after he retired from the National Board, he still focused his time on ICAA education and remained a member of the Education Committee until his passing. Bill contributed to several ICAA initiatives, including Drawing Tours, the Education Forum, and the Bunny Mellon Landscape Design Prize.
He was dedicated to supporting students in the industry and felt education was critical to success. He also believed that time was well spent investing in the next generation. In 2018, the ICAA created the William H. Harrison Scholarship at the Intensive in Classical Architecture: New York to acknowledge his outstanding commitment to the ICAA.
Bill was a dedicated classicist; he visited every Italian villa and palace designed by Andrea Palladio. It’s been known that he would say, "I touched [the architecture]... and it touched me." Bill made a positive impact on just about everyone he came across through his kindness and dedication to his work. He will be sorely missed.
