The 25 – Jon Berndsen
Jon Berndsen, a lifelong devotee of classical architecture and craftsman traditions, has dedicated decades to crafting an esteemed reputation in residential construction by meticulously creating impeccably detailed, historically accurate homes across Atlanta.
As a pioneer in establishing the country’s inaugural chapter of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art, Berndsen’s lifelong journey in construction began early in childhood, fueled by an unwavering passion for building projects.
“I was drawn into the field of traditional construction due to my love and admiration of classical architecture and the enduring craftsmanship that embodies longevity and permanence,” he says.
After earning his degree from Auburn University’s School of Architecture and Building Science, Berndsen founded Atlanta’s Berndsen Custom Homes, a recurrent OBIE Award and Shutze Award winner.
“Our team’s commitment to executing high-caliber traditional and classical construction methods upholds revered principles passed down through centuries of artisanship,” Berndsen says.
With fewer skilled artisans and workers entering the profession, Berndsen underscores the urgency to cultivate and mentor the next generation of craftsmen to preserve our traditional construction expertise.
