The 25 – Bob Christian
An award-winning decorative artist who works with the country’s leading interior designers, Bob Christian has painted murals on the walls, floors, and ceilings of historic houses and buildings across the United States during his 45-year career.
After studying painting in art school, Christian landed a job in New York City working with John Rosselli and Furlow Gatewood.
“They had an antique shop on the Upper East Side, and I painted in their basement, which exposed me to every kind of decorative art,” Christian says.
Christian’s work has been published in nearly every national home magazine, including Architectural Digest, Elle Décor, and Veranda, and numerous books.
In 2020, he won the Arthur Ross Award for Fine Arts from The Institute of Classical Architecture and Art.
Christian and his wife, Julia, have a gallery in Savannah, Georgia, featuring his hand-painted furniture and their original artwork.
“Since being in the field, I’ve seen so many trends come and go, but good work and true beauty do not depend on trends,” he says.
